Theater Posters for red rocks community college theater arts and dance department
2024-2026
One of the things I'm most grateful for during my time at Red Rocks is that the theater department trusted me with their show posters. I designed six over the course of my studies, the four I'm proudest of are here. Some of them, like Cabaret and Little Shop of Horrors, I came to the project with a premeditated adoration for the show. Others, like The Sins of Sor Juana, I'd never encountered before, and the research process of getting to know a show from before designing for it turned out to be one of my favorite processes.
Theater posters are a format that really suits the way I think about design. The whole job is to invite someone into the world of a show before they've seen a single scene. A compelling poster can capture tone, stakes, and character in one image and make it irresistible. That's a puzzle I find genuinely exciting, and it gave me a lot of room to bring my skills as illustrator to the table, not just a layout designer.
These projects also came with real professional constraints, including specific copy requirements that stemmed from licensing agreements, institutional brand guidelines, accessibility standards; and I appreciated that. Learning to hold creative ambition alongside a client's actual needs is one of the most useful things I learned in school, and these posters were some of my best practice for it.
